Reasons for visiting the Czech Republic

Spread the love

Did you know that the Czech Republic celebrates this year’s 30th anniversary from the velvet revolution? This post is not about that, but it is good to remember that it wasn’t always possible to visit this country. When I say that I’m originally from the Czech Republic, most people think “Prague!”. However, Prague isn’t the only reason for visiting the Czech Republic. In this post, I’m adding some more reasons for inspiration.

Reasons for visiting the Czech Republic – cities and history

Prague

As I mentioned, Prague isn’t the only reason for visiting the Czech Republic, but it is the obvious one. Prague is a very old city that will make you feel like you are going back to the middle ages. Not completely, since there are still cars on a street, but from the very old building, you have an opportunity to see how architecture differs through centuries and watch some historic sights. Unlike other cities like Berlin or Copenhagen, Prague is also very cheap for such a well-known capital.

A lot more historic cities and towns

It might not sound as exciting, but Prague isn’t the only city that you should visit. There are a lot more of them and a lot of them are very historical. If you enjoy old cities with unique architecture, these are for you too. The thing about Prague is that it is very crowded. If you enjoy places that are off the beaten path or simply not filled with tourists, try to visit Brno, Pilsen, Hradec Králové, Český Krumlov or Zlín. All of these have a rich history as well.

Castles

In the Czech Republic are a lot and lots of castles. Perhaps the best thing about it is that all of them are in different styles. So whether you are more into gothic, baroque, renaissance or something else, they are all there. I guess that not all of the people are necessary history lovers, but some of them are worth to see even from outside.

Spa towns

This might be very off the beaten path. There are a lot of spa towns in the Czech Republic, but not many foreigners. Those spa towns are both for healing and relaxation and all of them are quite beautiful with special natural waters.

Reasons for visiting the Czech Republic – nature

Hiking areas

Czech republic might not necessarily come to mind when you think about hiking, but there are some good places for doing that. Whether you are more interested in big lakes or climbing on some rocks. All of it can be found and since the country is pretty small, it is very easy to get around.

Rivers

Another great reason for visiting the Czech republic is if you are into water sports. The country has a lot of rivers, not necessary the wildest ones, but still fun to slide them down. Some of them are quite ideal for beginners.

Reasons for visiting the Czech Republic – drinks

czech beer

And finally, here we are. The drinks. Czechs are known for having one of the best beers in the world (sorry Germany). And as a bonus, it is very cheap. Sometimes it is cheaper than water. Pilsen, the city that I mentioned above is the place where pilsner was invented and you can still visit their brewery. There are also a lot of other breweries to try. Just be careful the next day.

But beer isn’t the only drink in the Czech Republic. The country also has some vineyards in the southern region. And sure, nobody probably ever tells you if you want more of this fine Czech wine, but still, it is wine and it is pretty good. You can even stay here in one of the wine cellars and taste wines all night long.

Other reasons for visiting the Czech Republic

First of all, it is cheap. As far as my traveling knowledge goes, a lot of European cities might feel quite expensive. Not here though. You can get very nice accommodation for a couple of bucks.

There is a lot of things to do, from historic places to cozy cafés or nice pubs to drink.

Maybe not all of the people speak English, but most of them try to be nice. We don’t always smile, but we don’t bite either.

So in general, there is always something for everyone and it is a good reason for visiting.
